Okay, so this was my fourth musical adventure. I was so pumped about Cats. And it did NOT disappoint. It was absolutely phenomenal!! It propels itself to the top of my musical list!!
Roland and Sylvia weren't at this one - this was a special show, not part of the season ticket package. So I did miss them.... and the gay guys that sit behind me and make droll comments about everyone around us.....
So, here is Abby Bradford (aka Betty Buckley) singing "Memory" from the original Broadway show. I like her because she's from Ft. Worth and I loved Eight is Enough!!
I get a couple weeks off and I return to the musicals on June 10th with "The Drowsy Chaperone." It looks interesting......
PS - Sex and the City...... less than 72 hours away!!

Memorial Day Weekend.... it will be memorable!!
Well, if my Marthalocity calculations are correct..... if we were in NYC, we would have been on Regis & Kelly yesterday morning and right now we would be on the Sex and the City tour!! Oh, well.... at least there is only one more week until the Sex and the City movie - I cannot wait!!!
So this begins my Memorial Day weekend.... 4 days of no work and relaxation! I haven't had a weekend off since Spring Break, so this is exciting!! Today I'm meeting my friend Kristen for lunch at La Hacienda... yummy!! The later this afternoon Danyielle and I are shopping for office stuff for the new school and having dinner.... maybe a movie? Tomorrow I'm hoping to have a "sloth day" (stay in jammies all day, reading, napping, and watching bad TV). I'm hoping that Brooke and I can get together and go see "Made of Honor" like we've wanted to for weeks now.....

You might be a redneck.......
So tonight was my third night at the Dallas Summer Musicals..... it was Cash: Ring of Fire......
Well, I did not love it. It wasn't better than Cats. I won't see it again and again! (Bonus points if you get the reference - except Mike, you're excluded!!)
Three reasons I did not enjoy this musical:
1. I don't like country music.
2. I'm not a redneck. (Ed.'s note: I did have a redneck moment when my flip-flop broke during the intermission and I had to walk to my car after the show with one shoe on and one shoe off... cue the dueling banjos!! I guess I was in the spirit of the show!)
3. I've seen "Walk the Line."
I thought there would be more of a story rather than just singing. And I will say, the group did an awesome job - they have great voices. For those of you who are Roland and Sylvia fans and wondering what they thought - they don't like country music either... this was not their favorite!!
So here's my ranking of my musicals:
1. Rain - The Beatles Experience
2. The Wedding Singer
3. Cash: Ring of Fire
Next week is an oldy but a goody...... CATS!!

A great way to end a bad week!
Okay, I had a rough week. A long week. A week where I was ready to throw in the towel and do something different. I haven't had a day off since the middle of April. I'm living for next weekend, my four day no work weekend!
So tonight my sister and I go to see Loverboy and Everclear at the Richardson Wildflower Festival. Karma is strong when Sarah uses her Richardson resident discount and the tickets only cost $7.50. That's less than the price of a movie!
So we grab dinner and head over there. We realize when we get there that we are doing this all wrong. We don't have a blanket and/or lawn chairs. Oh, well, we'll make do.
So we go and find a great spot on the grass to watch Loverboy. And I'm sooo excited......
Mike Reno has a huge gut belly. His voice is great, but he's packed on the pounds. They spend the first 30 minutes playing crap I've never heard of. Then finally they start jamming on the classic 80's stuff (my sister, who is 4 years younger, didn't know a lot of the songs as she was in 3rd grade when Loverboy was big). It was great at the end, they really jammed it out.... I loved it! I will say that the average age of patrons was older than myself.
But what I really enjoyed was the lady. I'll call her Sally. Sally was feeling the music. Sally was loving her some Loverboy. She was aerobic dancing and working up a real sweat. She did some great ass shaking and shimmying that wasn't quite the best look for her. To best summarize her "look" - the clip of Joan of Arc doing aerobics from Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure is as close as I can get without trying to recreate the dance myself. Actually, Joan might be a little offended if she knew I was comparing her to Sally....
So now we walk around and end up watching the end of Eve 6's set. They were really good and they rocked!! But I did notice that the demographic had changed slightly.... younger kids, many high school and college age kiddos. I was definitely one of the old farts there.
So we get a beer and wonder around. Then we go to get a second beer and I get carded. I'm 37 11/12 years old and I got carded. The man who carded me said, "You're holding up pretty well." What the hell is that supposed to mean?
Finally Everclear comes on. They put on a great concert. One of the guitar players was hot, I mean really hot!! I loved their whole set, but they played barely an hour - I wanted more!!
As you can tell, we had a blast! And what a value!!
I'm hoping I've got the energy for Bret Michaels and the Rock of Love Tour tomorrow night... my feet hurt, my head hurts, and I can't hear. Damn, I am gettin old......

It's only Montel.......
so I went on the Regis and Kelly website to see who I would be missing by not going to NYC next week. I was relieved to see it was Montel Williams and the winner from America's Next Top Model!! I don't feel bad missing either one of them....... now let's hope that the Daily Show guest is just as lame......
FYI, three weeks from Friday is Sex and the City movie! I can't wait!!

Regis and Kelly, here I come..... NOT!!
Okay, so here's my story...... My friend Brooke and I were going to go to NYC for a long Memorial Day weekend. I have the Friday before off and we were going to leave on Thursday and come back late Sunday or Monday.
As you can imagine, Marthalocity goes into full swing. I sign up for tickets for Conan O'Brien, The Daily Show, and I send a postcard into Regis and Kelly.
Then life happens..... we drag our heels in buying plane tickets, the prices go up, hotels start to book, Brooke's boss goes on maternity leave, my two-job life leaves me to where I can't breathe I'm so busy......
So the trip falls by the wayside... with a promise that we'll go in December - besides, it'll be better at Christmas, right?
So yesterday I come home after a long day (13 hours) of work and check my mail. I have a letter from Regis and Kelly! Not Regis and Kelly personally, but from "their people." (Ed.'s note: If I had "people," they would have received the letter, but I don't..... never mind!)
We have tickets for Thursday, May 22nd. We are #8 on the list. All I have to do is call and confirm, then show up at the studio at 7:45 that morning. To be on TV. In NYC.
It's not Oprah, but it's damn close........ I fall into a depression spiral that only 3 chocolate Snack Packs can save me from the depths of my despair.....
So we'll try NYC in December. And we'll try Regis and Kelly, The View, The Daily Show, Conan O'Brien, Letterman, whomever..... but what if I missed my chance.......
I'm dying to know who will be on the show!! Any guesses??

All You Need is Love!!
Tonight was my second night at the Dallas Summer Musicals. The show was "Rain: The Beatles Experience" and it was incredible. The guys looked and sounded just like the Beatles. They played tons of songs from the early days until the end. Several times the crowd got up to clap and dance along. Many people were singing along.
Roland and Sylvia liked this show better than the last one. Sylvia was actually nodding off at the end. (Ed's note: Sylvia's real name is Diana, but I like Sylvia better, so that is her name!)
My sister Sarah and her husband Mike came along. My sister really enjoyed when "Ringo" got out the tambourine and jammed on "Give Peace a Chance." My sister enjoys good tambourining when she can get it.
Mike was fixated on an 80's SNL skit. He's supposed to find me the You Tube so I can post it here for you. He repeated the skit like 100 times and he got really excited when a guy recognized it and said it along with Mike.
I had many favorite moments.... but here is one of my favorites:
What's up next? Johnny Cash: Ring of Fire on May 20th!! I love my Dallas Summer Musicals!!

Lovin' every minute of it!!!
The 80's gods continue to smile down on me with good fortune and rocking tunes from the glory days of yesteryear. My sister tells me about the Richardson Wildflower Festival which will be held May 16-18. So I'm like, "Yeah, okay, so what?" But then she tells me the lineup of some of the music:
1. Loverboy - sigh...... anyone who is my age remembers the album cover for Get Lucky, right? Mike Reno was sooo hot!! I remember they showed them a couple of summers ago on some TV show ("The Hits Hit Back" or some crap like that) and I almost cried when I saw a bloated, older, balding Mike Reno. I was sad, but as my dear friend Chicago told me at the time, "We are all moving toward bloated, older, and bald." Typical man!!)
And what about the timeless 80's ballad "Almost Paradise" sung with my gal Ann Wilson of Heart?? I made out with Clint S. to that song!! (And I just downloaded on iTunes because of the warm memories it provides!! I know I still have Footloose on VHS somewhere around here!)
2. Pat Benatar - Sister knew what she was talking about when she said "Love is a Battlefield" - that is one of my favorite 80's videos.... the Cyndy Lauper-esque clothes, the group dancing remnicent of Thriller... that is what the 80's were about!!
I had the privilege, no... really the honor of seeing Pat Benatar play the Super Pit at UNT my freshman year of college. I'm not sure the Pit has rocked as hard since then!
3. Bret Michaels..... Rock of Love! The show was so enticing, I watched it not once, but twice!! He's older than me, but he wants these skanky young 20 somethings!! I have to admit that the theme song of the show is sooo catchy!! And honestly, I do love Poison! I'm there!!

27 more days til Sex and the City - The Movie!!!!
Two of my favorite things - Oprah and Sex and The City!!
The girls were on Oprah on Thursday talking about the movie. Did you know it opens in 27 days? I haven't been so excited about a movie premiere since Jackass 2 came out two years ago!! (hehehe)
Of course, they gave NOTHING away, but you can just tell that it's going to be fabulous! The audience got to go to a sneak preview, but even they didn't get to see the ending. I'm so jealous!! I wonder if that was one of the Oprah shows I tried to get tickets to??
Here are my predictions:
1. Carrie - Carrie and Big are going to get engaged. They buy a fabulous apartment and plan the wedding. She wants a big one, he doesn't. She plans a big one, he bails. (All of that is courtesy of the trailer!) But I do think in the end they will end up together.......
2. Charlotte - Charlotte and Harry are happily married with their adopted daughter. She gets pregnant and they have another kid. (Again, from the trailer.) They continue to live happily ever after.....
3. Miranda - Miranda is living the high life over in Brooklyn. She finds out that Steve cheats on her, only once and it didn't mean anything (thanks, trailer!) but they decide to work things out and she ends up having another kid. She quits being a lawyer......
4. Samantha - Sam moves to LA to be with Smith. She's got a whole new state to conquer and she gets busy quick! I want her and Smith to stay together, but who knows.........
I plan to be at the theatre right after school on the 30th for the movie..... who's with me?
